The American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) is the United States’ leading trade association representing apparel, footwear, and other sewn products companies, and their suppliers, which compete in the global market. AAFA's mission is to promote and enhance its members' competitiveness, productivity, and profitability in the global market by minimizing regulatory, legal, commercial, political, and trade restraints. AAFA seeks to achieve this mission by representing the points of view and pursuing the concerns of AAFA members before the public and all branches of government to advance the association's legislative, international trade, and regulatory objectives.


Incorporated in 1978, Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) is a non-profit making organisation set up for the purpose of promotion of apparel trade and commerce. It has more than 7000 members. An ISO 9000 and SA 8000 company, AEPC is the largest Council in India which assists Government in formulating policy with regard to export of apparel. Sponsored by Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. The prime activity is export promotion through more than 25 international events in a year through fairs, BSMs, delegations and specialized events. AEPC runs 125 Apparel Training & Design Centres (ATDC). AEPC also runs Institutes of Apparel Management (IAM) for higher education, complements flagships programmes of the Ministry – DISHA and runs ambitious programmes like Knitwear Technology Mission (KTM).

The Association of the Austrian Clothing Industry is an independent organisation within the Austrian Economic Chamber.

The Association acts on behalf of the interests of its member in contact with national and EU authorities, within the Austrian Economic Chamber, versus unions, up-and down-stream parts of the textile chain and other national and international professional associations and provides a lot of useful services for its members.

Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) was established in 1996 as a national trade body to represent solely the largest export earning sector of Bangladesh. Now it is an association of about 1700 members.

China-Europe Textile Alliance (C.E.T.A.) In February 2005, the Confederation of the German Textile and Fashion Industry, the Swiss Textile Federation and the Federal Association of the Austrian Textile Industry put in place a project known as the China-Europe Textile Alliance (C.E.T.A.) under the aegis of GIC Shanghai. Later the Textile Industries from France, the Spanish Cotton System Textile Industry Association and the Federation of Finnish Textile and Clothing Industries also became active members of C.E.T.A. The aim of the C.E.T.A. project is to familiarize European companies in the textile and garments industry with the working practices of the Chinese textile industry, the Chinese production capacity, the distribution structure of the Chinese market and the channels for entering the market, etc.

The China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC) is a national industry association whose mandate is to promote industry development and enhance collaboration wiht textile industries around the world. It joins hands with partners along the textile supply chain and find solutions to the challenges we are facing, which will in turn promote the sustainable and healthy development of the global textile industry.

Confederation of Garment Exporters of the Philippines (CONGEP) was organised in 1992 to serve as the voice of the Philippine apparel industry. It has the following objectives: To implement and promote the garment industry's technological, educational, socio-economic and export development projects enhancing the industry's welfare and interest; To promote the most effective relationship, coordination and understanding between the Confederation and all instrumentalities and agencies of the government, labor and other sectors of business and industry; To foster better relationship, coordination and understanding between and among its members; To maintain the highest ethical standards between and among its members. To date, the membership of CONGEP represents more than 40% of the country's total FOB performance in apparel.

CONGEP also represents Philippines garments and textile industry in the ASEAN Federation of Textile Manufacturers (AFTEX).

Fashion Commerce in Finland is a non-governmental organisation (NGO). Members of the association include retail, wholesale and other companies trading in apparel, shoe and other fashion related fields.

The Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America is the largest footwear trade association in the United States. The association accounts for approximately 80% of all footwear sales in the U.S., representing the industry’s leading retailers, brands and buying agents. Its services include lobbying and advocacy for industry causes, educational programs and trade publications.

The Foreign Trade Association is the European trade association that represents the foreign trade interests of European commerce. It advocates free world trade and the liberal development and strengthening of the multilateral trading system within the framework of the World Trade Organisation. Headquartered in Brussels, its members are national retail trade associations and individual firms from nearly all European countries.

Established since 1996, Garment Manufacturers Association in Cambodia (GMAC) is the apex trade body that represents the export-oriented garment and shoes industry in Cambodia. All the industry-related sub-contracting factories are also under the umbrella of GMAC.

GMAC currently represents over 400 garment and footwear factories which totally employ roughly 500,000 workers mainly disadvantaged and poverty stricken females from rural provinces.

The principal objective of GMAC is to establish a conducive and healthy business environment for the industries through our regular activities of representation and advocacy, capacity building, information sharing and dissemination, networking, market linkage, trade promotion, support for market access and many more.

GMAC is headed by a 25-member Executive Council elected from amongst its members biannually during its General Assembly. The Executive Council provides advice on strategies and policy development relevant to sustainability and growth of the industry. Day-to-day operations are carried out by a professional team of secretariat staff.

Global Apparel, Footwear and Textile Initiative (GAFTI) is an initiative to bring retailers, brands, mills and factories together to improve efficiencies and set standards globally. GAFTI’s goal is to reduce complexity and remove costs from common industry practices and prevent increased scrutiny from press and governments, which could lead to increased regulation. Ultimately, the end customers of our “service” include all parties involved in the development, manufacture and distribution of apparel, textiles and footwear, government agencies, and of course consumers.

Asosiasi Pertekstilan Indonesia – Indonesian Textile Association (API) is a sectoral association engaged in manufacturing and trading of the textile and garment industry. API was established in Jakarta on June 17, 1974. It was initiated by entrepreneur community of textile and garment.

Members of the association range from up-stream to down-stream with a total of 1,366 companies, consisting of: fiber making, texturizing, spinning, weaving, knitting and embroidery, dyeing / printing / finishing incl. batik, garment, and home textile.

The International Apparel Federation (IAF) is the world’s leading federation for apparel manufacturers, their associations, apparel retailers and the supporting industry. IAF aims to develop business contacts which foster dialogue and knowledge exchange between individuals active in the global fashion industry.

The annual World Fashion Convention, organized by IAF, is one of the means to create a worldwide network. Professionals from all over the world meet to discuss actual developments in the fashion chain. Dutch Clothing & Knitting Industry Association (MODINT) is the Dutch trade association for fashion, interior design, carpets and textiles, an association with a clear mission.
The main task of MODINT is to strengthen the competitive power of the members and sectors they represent by means of a wide-ranging package of interest promotion and services, with the focus on content and quality. It goes without saying that MODINT continues to make every effort to expand our membership, in order to increase support and create a stronger competitive position.
MODINT is active in a great many fields to ensure that its members' interests are protected. These interests often converge in our active member groups, sections and working groups, which can count on the support of a professional organization. Most of MODINT's business services are incorporated into MODINT BV, in which the Consultancy and Credit Management activities play a major role.
The MODINT membership totals over 850 companies, active in the production of and trade in clothing, fashion accessories and (interior) textiles. They generate a joint annual turnover of EUR 8 billion, of which EUR 3,5 billion on export markets.

The Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) is an industry-wide group of over 60 leading apparel and footwear brands, retailers, suppliers, nonprofits, and NGOs working to reduce the environmental and social impacts of apparel and footwear products around the world.
The focus of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition is The Higg Index that measures the environmental performance of apparel products. Future versions will include footwear products and measure social performance.



The Textile and Fashion Federation (TaFf) is a coalition of the textile and garment association formed in 1981. Since then, Singapore’s textile and garment industry has transformed from a manufacturing base to a regional fashion, marketing and sourcing hub. TaFf also organises trade shows, competitions and industry initiatives such as Apparel SG to promote local fashion businesses overseas. TaFf is proud to have groomed many young designers and companies and assisted their international expansion.

The Textile Council of Hong Kong, as a body representing all major textile associations, acts as a voice for the textile industry on matters that affect the industry. Such matters mainly concern with commercial policies affecting Hong Kong's textiles exports such as quotas and anti-dumping actions, Hong Kong's textile export controls system, the employment ordinance, environmental rules and regulations, taxation and tariff etc. It also undertakes by itself or jointly with other organizations study missions, projects, seminars and other activities.

The Union des Industries Textiles (The Union of Textile Industries) is a French professional association that unites the professional employers' groups of the industry:
Professional federations and branches: cotton, wool, linen, cordage and nets, mesh, silk, lace and embroidery, artificial and synthetic textiles, finishing... ; or regions: Aisne, Alsace, Champagne, Lorraine, South-Pyrenees, North, Normandy, Picardy, Rhone-Alps.
Representing the majority of the 1000 textile companies active in France, the UIT fulfils the three following objectives:

- to support its members in their development : innovation, RD, international development, acces to finance...;
- to define the lobbying strategy for the profession and to be the spokesman for the industry to the decision makers for all subjects of common interest: taxation, research and development, social rights, sales and marketing policy, exports and international development, industrial strategy, protection against counterfeiting...;
- to improve professionnal skills within companies: since 1994, 21000 young people have benefited from combined work/study contracts and more than 320 000 young trainees from continuing training.

The United States Association of Importers of Textiles and Apparel (USA-ITA) was established in January 1989 by nine companies with a vision to create a unified voice for textile and apparel importers across the country. USA-ITA provides education, information, and advocacy to executives active in textile and apparel sourcing, importing, compliance, and logistics. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., USA-ITA represents the needs of American retailers, brands and importers, as well as related service providers, with the objective to remove barriers to business and to trade.
